As the sector lead agency for Shelter and Non– Food Items (NFIs) in Pakistan, IOM led the Cluster following the 2005 earthquake and 2010, 2011 and 2012 floods. In 2013, the Humanitarian Country Team deactivated all clusters at national and provincial levels. To support ongoing shelter projects in the country and capacity building/preparedness initiatives, IOM continues to convene a Shelter Working Group at the national level.
IOM has extensive experience in delivering humanitarian assistance and coordinating emergency response with the Government of Pakistan and other humanitarian actors. IOM Pakistan’s Emergency and Stabilization Support Unit (PESSU) oversees the design and implementation of various humanitarian and recovery projects and has implemented programming worth over 200 million USD since 2005, reaching more than 43.5 million beneficiaries.
IOM Pakistan’s ongoing humanitarian programmes include:
- Multi-year Humanitarian Programme for Integrated Preparedness, Response and Recovery to Natural Disasters
- Research for Improved Shelters for Responding to Floods in Pakistan: Phase II
